LAK MedSpa truly puts the “medical” in “medspa.” Yes, we provide a relaxing, inviting, spa-like atmosphere and amenities. However, our office in Wayzata, Minnesota, is built on a foundation of medically-managed services. Our team is led by two highly-regarded physicians, Drs. Lisa Ohman Erhard and Mark Erhard. You have peace of mind that all treatments to renew your appearance and self will be performed to the highest quality and safety standards. We also like to stay ahead of the curve with an evolving menu of advanced technologies and services. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) Facials embody these principles perfectly.
To understand this twist on standard facials, you must first understand PRP. Your blood is made up of different components. The “platelet” part of PRP refers to the cells in your blood whose main function is clotting. Platelets also contain healing and regenerative proteins called “growth factors.” The other “P” refers to the blood plasma or the liquid part of our blood. Lastly, the “R” or “rich” is a reference to how we can specially prepare a sample of your blood. So, it may be concentrated with the healing platelets and growth factors. We can then apply this powerful skin-boosting cocktail to areas of your face that have sustained signs of aging or sun damage.
One of our physicians or nurse practitioners with advanced training in this therapy will apply the sample to a machine called a centrifuge. This machine is designed to spin the blood at a very high rate of speed. This centrifugal action separates the platelets from other cells and parts of your blood. In turn, the plasma is now heavily concentrated with beneficial growth factors.
There are many different ways to introduce PRP. It may be applied topically, via injections, or with the help of microneedling. With the microneedling approach, PRP may be applied to the small perforations produced by a handheld needling device. The process of microneedling itself is associated with collagen production and renewal. However, the addition of PRP can optimize treatment further. Two treatments really are better than one!+
Many signs of aging and environmental damage are no match for PRP. We have had great success smoothing dry and leathery skin, softening fine lines and pores, improving the appearance of scars and stretch marks, adding volume to hollowed-out or sunken areas, and lifting lax or saggy spots. Your skin can also appear more luminous after just one PRP treatment; however, it’s generally recommended to complete a series of two or three treatment sessions to get maximum results.
No. You will still need “touch-ups.” But, due to how PRP stimulates healing and the production of beneficial proteins deep within the skin, results are durable. You may only need treatment once or twice a year. Plus, our patients at LAK MedSpa love how natural PRP is – both due to the biocompatibility of treatment (powered by your body’s own blood) and due to the fact that your own body’s regenerative capacity is being unlocked to create beautiful volume and lift.
